There has been several posts circulating around Twitter showing images of the successful APEC 2015 which led to many people comparing Cayetano’s mishandling of 30th SEA Games despite the closely equal budget between the event.
The APEC or better known as Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit is an inter-governmental forum for 21 Pacific Rim member economies that promotes free trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region. So essentially, the said event is expected to be attended by more than 7,000 delegates from 21 countries many of them were VIP’s or Head of States. Naturally, the APEC 2015 event should require a budget of around 10 billion but only 7 billion were spent despite the huge number of expected delegates, however, I must reiterate that this figure is still significantly lower compared to the recent 2017 ASEAN Summit who had a budget of around 15 billion pesos attended by mere 2000 delegates from 7 countries.
Here’s what the netizens think about the 2015 APEC
Re APEC 2015 “It was a success experience-wise, content-wise and outcome-wise,”
—- Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima
The APEC meetings in 2015 marked the first time in almost two decades the Philippines served as host to the trade and economic group. Our trade “Pre-APEC trade is $3 trillion, now it’s $21 trillion. It grew seven times,”. Also, because of the success of APEC 2015, our exports grew by 15 folds. The brilliant execution and planning made the event a success and without a hitch despite despite the week being mostly a holiday, heavy traffic persisted on major highways such as EDSA.
